Cereal bars, recipe to make them at home

In this article, we present the recipe for making homemade cereal bars. They are simple and nutritious and lend themselves to many variations.

Certainly, the image of cereal bars conveys the idea of a rich and healthy diet. You may have also heard that it is an energy food and that it can help us recharge our batteries.

However, what is often not known is that industrially produced cereal bars marketed in large food chains are full of flavorings, sugars, and various types of additives that are not very recommendable for the health.

The best solution, therefore, is to prepare them at home: in this way, you will be sure that they contain only healthy and natural elements. We present, therefore, the recipe for preparing homemade cereal bars.

Crunchy oat cereal bars

Ingredients

  • Rolled oats – 1 cup
  • Grated coconut – 2 tsp
  • Raisins – 1 tbsp
  • Roasted peanuts – 1 tbsp
  • Honey – 2 tbsp
  • Zest of a mandarin
  • Anise seeds – ½ tsp
  • Oil sesame seeds – 1 tsp
  • Ground cinnamon – 1 tsp
  • Sea salt – 1 pinch

Preparation

Heat the sesame oil in a pan over low heat. Add the oats, cinnamon, and grated coconut. Mix gently for about 15 minutes, until you see that the ingredients have absorbed all the oil and have a golden and crunchy appearance.

Then add the raisins, peanuts, anise, and salt. Remove the ingredients for a few minutes. The ideal is to use a wooden spoon.

Then add the honey and tangerine zest, and turn off the heat. Keep mixing to make sure that all the ingredients blend with the honey. To finish, pour everything into a pan and press the dough well until a very compact mass is formed.

Refrigerate and let it rest until it has cooled and hardened. Then cut the dough with a knife, giving the bars the shape and size you want.

Keep in mind that it will be necessary to let your preparation cool for as long as necessary, otherwise, it will crumble when you cut it.

Try other combinations for new cereal bars

As you have seen, this is a very simple process. By following the steps described above, you can prepare bars with different flavors.

We advise you to experiment by preparing energy bars with:

  • Walnuts
  • Almonds
  • Flax seed
  • Puffed rice
  • Small pieces of fruit
  • Peeled sunflower seeds
  • Corn flakes
  • Amaranth seeds
  • Grains of cooked wheat
  • Crumbled cookies
  • Small pieces of chocolate

Obviously, there is no need to use all the ingredients together, you can experiment with different combinations according to your preferences.

We hope you will try to prepare them soon, as cereal bars are an excellent, practical, and healthy option for breakfasts and snacks.

They are perfect for the whole family, for both adults and children, and are a healthy alternative to snacks when you feel like nibbling something between meals or feel the need for something sweet.

Also, know that these bars are not only very healthy and nutritious but also stimulate intestinal transit.
Don’t wait any longer and prepare them now: your families and your health will thank you!
